If I were a pringle, I would totally want that hat

Okay, so I'm trying something new. Well, it's an old idea, which yes, I stole (or was inspired by) on Nate's blog, and he got it from Jonah, but it's still new to my blog (it must run in the family).

I'm writing a story. It's a good stress reliever, and doctor told me that being less stressed would be to my advantage. Plus, I just like reading, so bear with me. It may go well, it may suck. I hope it is the former.

Here you are, my story, which has yet to get a title (also runs in the family).

*****
Thay was wondering where the King's Horses and Men were going in such a hurry when she walked into the brick wall. Rubbing her squashed nose, she stood up and looked around. A whole company of the King's Horses and Men were heading quickly past her. She saw a captain she recognized, she called out to him.
"Hey! Jem!" A tall man in a blue and white uniform looked around quickly to see who was calling him. Spotting Thay, he guided his bay gelding over to her spot on the wall.
"What's going on?" Thay asked him, immediately putting on her business face.
Jem sighed muderously. "Another bloody Dumpty fell off the wall! The hospital is full of 'em already! This isn't what the the H & M is for!"
"Thanks for letting me know, Jem." Thay thanked him, her voice already souding tired. "Sounds like I'm going to be having a busy day." She checked her watch. "And it's not even nine o'clock yet." She waved to the captain as she walked off.
Thay headed swiftly north, toward the west wing of the castle. She checked her watch again, and swore softly. She was late, and all hell would break loose soon. Another Dumpty off the wall. That's three in the past month. Normally she would feel sorry for the sorry soul who had to deal with it. Unfortunately, that poor soul was her.
She waved absently to the receptionist at the front desk and flashed her badge that read "Assistant to Director of Inter-racial Affaires: Thay Hawkinson" As she walked by, the receptionist covered the phone reciever and called after Thay. "You've got the Herald on line one, KO on line two, and the Director is waiting for you in his office. I told them you'd be right with them."
"Thanks." Thay called behind her, not wasting the time to turn around. She swore softly to herself. Hell had broken loose, and she wasn't even in her office yet.

Dont blame me, I live in the gum that's stuck to the chicken.

This, from the Washington Post.

*Disclaimer: This isn't mine, it comes from the Washington Post, so it belongs to them.*

By-the-Book Speeches
Ted Widmer, a former Clinton administration speechwriter, sat down and read every word of every one of America's 54 presidential inaugural addresses and somehow lived to tell the tale.
"It's not a task for the fainthearted," he writes in a smart and witty essay in the American Scholar. "No one can enter those endless paragraphs about tariffs and civil service reform and emerge undamaged."
Widmer emerged undamaged enough to notice that "the typical inaugural can be broken down into specific set pieces; the thoughts arranged in a comforting sequence." As a public service, he reveals that sequence:

1. "I am not worthy of this great honor."
2. "But I congratulate the people that they elected me."
3. "Now we must all come together, even those of us who really hate each other."
4. "I love the Constitution, the Union, and George Washington."
5. "I will work against bad threats."
6. "I will work for good things."
7. "We must avoid entangling alliances."
8. "America's strength = democracy."
9. "Democracy's strength = America."
10. "Thanks, God."

Widmer's list can come in handy for folks eager to celebrate zestily while watching President Bush's inauguration on Thursday. Just keep the list in one hand and a tankard of grog in the other. As Dubya hits each numbered point, drink deeply. When he gets all 10, holler "Bingo!"

"Throw your personalities in the garbage can"

I just got back from school. Yes school. On a saturday. I was at an anti-bullying worshop (part 1) and it was great. It really changed the way I think about relationships with people, and the way people act towards me and others and why. It has a lot to do with power. Very interesting.

Next workshop, the final one, we will plan a presentation we will do at the feeder schools (elementary schools). It's going to be good. Thats on Feb 18th. A long way away i know, but it was hard to plan.

PS, we got an AMAZING choir song. You'll all know it. "All I ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera. Its really lovely. I see why you like it Erin.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to my Dad! (That was for all you Comstocks out there who feel like calling him later to wish him well)

Enough with the diving board analogy!

I am SO wiped...

Yesterday I arrived at school at 8:00 (okay, okay, I know you guys are already learning then, but thats a full 50 minutes before our classes start.) Why was I there that early? Because that's what I do. Plus, I always seem to forget something (i.e., science test, math homework, etc) and therefor must do the homework then.

After school, the VOICES hosts had to get ready for... GRADE NINE INFORMATION NIGHT!!! *nostalgic look* I remember my grade nine info night... Only this one was better. Because us hosts were on the job (YAY JOSH!). We decided to give tours of Lisgar for the little grade eights and their parents.

So we (the hosts who had recieved info of the hosts meeting after school) went around to all the classrooms we were visiting and cleaned everything up. I was at school until 5:30. I then went home, changed (so Id look presentable for the little grade eights) and headed back to school at 6. I think I managed a couple bites of pizza in there somewhere...

So, after a couple small crises (Anand having no white shirt *appaled look*, Staci looking for Josi, Josi looking Staci...) grade nine info night got underway. It was so cool to see all the little grade eights from Hopewell! (Sarah Mackenzie is WAY too tall. Look! I got her name right!).

And went on... the presentation in the assembly that starts off the evening went on FOREVER... (enough with the gifted and AP courses!), and of course, Cantebury and some other school in the boonies were having thier info nights that night too. After the presentation finally ended, we were mobbed for tours. Avery and I started with a couple of people and people kept joining the tour... the caught on like wildfire. We picked a whole bunch of places on each floor, and had so much fun. Maybe too much... ("Avery stop talking the poor grade eight's ear off!"). When we finished the first, and after a bit of explanations to my mother, who was waiting for us, we did another tour. (Poor Rachel... mobbed by the little grade eights!)

I finally left the school at 9:30, with Josh and Avery in tow and got home at ten. Crashed in front of ER. Didnt even go one msn! (crazy for me, i know, but... i just didnt wnat to deal with that right now). Fell asleep at 11:00, as soon as I got to bed.

A sonnet by me, to prove anyone can write a sonnet (including you, Lana. Get writing!)

Love Lines - by Wings

Around the room, turn faster, and faster
up and down together, all thanks to you
But then it stops, the ride getting slower
as i watch, the picture's lines grow bolder
you stand before me, your face showing true
you mirror the feelings i always knew
I want to tell you, but my words falter
your fingers trace my face, and i flutter
and you must know that im yours forever

Then i took your hand, but you withdrew
suddenly the room is so much colder
I look to your eyes, a chilling preview
I see our futur, now just a glimmer
the way i feel, isnt mirrored in you
then you walk away, the lines ever fainter...

Too many little sandwiches, scones, and brownies later...

Mmmm... New Year's tea. Yes, we actually have tea here. We used to have tea all the time with a couple my parents were friends with, only he died, so we stopped. Quite sad. It was so much fun.
So we decided this year to revive the tea party tradition, have it on New Year's Day, and presto! A new tradition is born. We ate little sandwiches (olive and cream cheese, tukey paté, egg salad, tuna pita pockets and cucumber and butter), scones (with strawberry jam) and brownies. Im so full. I don't see how the british do it.
Last night was fun too. Girl's Night In, with Avery. A big screen and projector plugged into her DVD player, and we watched mvies all night. We watched Mean Girls (with her little sister and her friend), Hidalgo, and I finally saw "The Empire Strikes Back" and I will see "Return of the Jedi"... eventually...
That still means I have yet to see the newer ones. Ah well, all in good time, I suppose.

You can go back to reading your Han/Laia fanfics now, Avery :P .
